Fellowship to Indonesia
The Teachers for Global Classrooms (TGC) and IREX programs, courtesy of the United States Department of State has selected me to be a 2016-17 TGC Fellow. The goal of a TGC fellow is to become a global ambassador in their classroom, school, and the broader community. In the summer of 2017, I will be participating in an international field experience and curriculum development focused on global competency, technology integration, and cross-cultural communication in Indonesia for 3 weeks. I will be partnered with local schools and experience Indonesian education, participate in teaching lessons in the community, and touring the customs and culture of the region. As a fellow, I also have had to complete a 10 week course learning about how to incorporate global education in their teaching and community. Additionally I participated in a Global Education Symposium in Washington DC in the spring where fellow educators across the United States learned how to expand global education and promote mutual understanding. The culminating capstone is an encompassing website and blog regarding the learning that I have had throughout the fellowship experience and I promised to take plenty of pictures and videos for his classroom to experience!
What did i have to do to participate?
Teachers for Global Classrooms have a very easy to understand application process (see below). While I didn't get selected on my first year I applied, I was put on a waitlist. The following year I was selected, much to my excitement. The application has several different components, as well as several essay questions. Once selected, I was awarded a free Canon point and shoot camera and an Amazon Fire Kindle! Upon completion of the rigorous yet educationally rewarding class, I was able to find out where I would be visiting, Indonesia!
